This is rediculous!!! How does the university expect its students to succeed in life when all we can do is practically sell our souls each semester to afford the ever-rising tuition?! Personally, I’m having a bit of trouble trying to get food on my table each day from all the money I have to fork out each year just to stay in school so that ONE DAY I can get a degree which I can use to get a CAREER with. But, honestly, lately I’ve been doubting if I can even AFFORD to get a degree here!! My nightmare of having a dead-end, minimum wage job for the rest of my life is slowly becoming a reality! If I’m actually given the option to “either cut things that are very important or increase tuition,” I say CUT THE FAT!!! Because, if you consider all the things that are really NOT needed at this school, we can afford to lose A LOT!!
From what I understood from last week’s article, Gov. Blanco suggested higher education to make “cuts in thier budgets,” but it seems to me that our student gov. is trying to find ways to keep all the EXTRAS by making the students to ONCE AGAIN pay MORE. It’s hard to shake the feeling that I may be in debt for the rest of my life because I made the decision to try and better my self by coming to college. And it makes it that much worse by knowing that the severity of the whole situation could have been LESSENED, had it not been for the selfishness of the “powers that be” to try and compete with the modernity of OTHER universities.
