The filming tower in John L. Guidry stadium that stands on the Colonels south end zone has been refurbished. The tower is used to film shots from behind the end zone during games and practices.
J. Ray McDermott Inc. did the refurbishments.
“It was really nice by McDermott to come by and do that for us” head football coach Jay Thomas said.
To prepare for weekly games, the team and its opponents exchange previous game film, he said.
“You have to shoot from an end zone, because when you’re trading with your opponents, you need to get a rear shot from your end zone” Thomas said.
Along with the filming tower being used as a necessity for the film exchanges, it also serves as a tool for learning and player development, Thomas said.
The high end zone shot allows coaches to view mistakes made by the Colonels players and help them make the necessary corrections for improvement.
“That’s (the tower) a teaching tool right there,” Thomas said.
