This year students will be given the opportunity to enjoy three full weeks of activities during Weeks of Welcome, Aug. 13-29, to welcome new and returning students to the University. WOW is a collaboration among Student Union, Student Life, Student Programming Association, Student Educators and LeaderS, NAACP, Chi Alpha, Baptist Collegiate Ministry and other campus departments and organizations to provide students with information about everything the University has to offer.
All of the various departments and organizations have come together to bring students activities such as “So You Think You Can Sing,” “Soak in the Sun,” bingo, movie showings and more.
During WOW, students are given opportunities to meet with various clubs and organizations. Events such as SEALS, Student Programming Association and Greek recruiting not only give students information, but it also gives them an opportunity to get involved in the Nicholls community.
Welcome Back Day will be Aug. 21.
Themed “60 Years on the Bayou,” Welcome Back Day will have a log roll, a bungee trampoline, a mist tent, T-shirts for sale, free food and drinks and plenty of information for students. DJ Quinn will be in charge of music while Lee Daigle MC’s.
“[Students]… go and get involved, that’s how you will really enjoy Nicholls,” said Tiona Richardson, SPA special events chair.
In the evening, the Art Club and SPA will host “Shark After Dark,” a pool party and a showing of the movie “Jaws,” which is something new and different for students to experience.
“Welcome back day is a tradition and is always a big hit with the students,” Allie Johnson, assistant director of Auxiliary Services, said.
“The goal of WOW is to welcome students to Nicholls in a festive way and provide opportunities for students to get to know each other. Students can learn about the services and organizations at Nicholls, but most of all, have fun and feel good about their choice to come or return to Nicholls,” Johnson said.
