“We have the right ingredients to make the right dish,” head coach Chris Laird said about his new volleyball team. The team has high hopes for a great season with incoming freshmen Dani Daigle and Rachel Yezak. They will be very influential in leading this team to a successful season. Both said they are excited to be able to help turn the team around and lead them to their best season ever.
Daigle went to Assumption High School and is from Napoleonville. Daigle said “I am glad not to be far from home. Being that close allows me to be able to know plenty of people that will also be going to school with me.”
Daigle is looking forward to the start of the season and is confident that it will be a great experience for her and the others on her team. She sees how much chemistry her team has and their potential to go far in their competitions.
Yezak went to Klein High School and lives in Houston. “I am excited for small town life and a brand new culture.” Being farther away, Yezak did not know what to expect and how the team would treat her and if they would welcome her.
After practicing with the team a few times Yezak said “We gel really well. We hope our hard work will pay off when we start playing games. Everyone on the team is really positive and we will be able to go in with momentum to win.”
Being coached differently than high school can be difficult sometimes, but both Daigle and Yezak adapted to Laird. They said “Coach Laird is very confident in us and has high hopes for the team this year.” Laird is excited about his new team. “It is the biggest depth we have had. Our team has great ball control and everyone on our team can contribute in many ways.”
The team hopes to change last season’s record of eight wins and 24 losses by adding six new players. While it is a challenge with so many new people added to the team, the team agrees that in the long run it will help them. The team hopes that Laird’s quote of “making the right dish” comes true as their season soon approaches.
