Court Appointed Special Advocate will be holding a fundraiser Saturday called “A World of Fun” in Downtown Houma’s Courthouse Square on Main Street from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Established in 1977, CASA is a non-profit group of volunteers that are appointed by judges to watch over and advocate for abused and neglected children. These advocates oversee each case until the child is placed in a safe and permanent home.
Michael Piraino, CASA chief executive officer, has served as head of the National CASA Association since 1994. Last year nearly 60,000 CASA volunteers served more than 240,000 children. These volunteers have helped more than 2 million children find homes in which they can thrive since its beginning.
The fundraiser will feature live entertainment, games, food and raffles. Javier Juarez and the Panorama Jazz Band will serve as the musical act. Last, but not least, will be the raffle. A wide range of prizes includes a handmade quilt, a two-seater swing set, a globe and more. A special-made playhouse, which was built for the event, will be the grand prize.
There will be 25 booths representing different countries around the world, each with its own crafts reflecting a specific country. Children will have passports that they will be able to get stamped as they “travel the globe.”
“A World of Fun” is open to the general public. All food, drinks and snacks will cost $1.
The CASA office may be reached to pre-purchase playhouse raffle tickets at $5 each.
