The Lady Colonel softball team went 1-2 this past weekend against the Texas Arlington Mavericks winning the second game 3-2 and losing the first and third 3-0 and 5-4 on Tuesday.The two losses provided the Lady Colonels with their only two losses in conference thus far changing their record to 17-8 overall with a 7-2 conference record.
In game one, the Lady Colonels fell to the Mavericks 3-0.
Throughout the entire game, the Mavericks pitcher, Cara Hulme, held the Lady Colonels to only three hits with no scores. Hulme also struck out 11 Lady Colonels.
In Saturday’s 3-2 win in the second game of the double header, the Lady Colonels took a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Senior Danielle Clayton hitting a solo home-run in the third gave the Colonels the three runs they needed to win the game.
The Mavericks posted two runs in the fifth and sixth innings respectively but were not able to take the lead from the Lady Colonels.
On Sunday, the Lady Colonels were defeated by a score of 5-4.
The Lady Colonels went on top with four points from two errors and two hits, all scoring. Senior Kodi Butler and junior Audrey Wood scored from errors while senior Danielle Clayton doubled down the right field line to score Wood. Junior Lindsay Mesh had a two-run homerun to put the Colonels up 4-0 in the first.
Despite the impressive offense in the first inning, the Lady Colonels were not able to bring home anyone else. The Mavericks answered in the second and third inning bringing in 5 Maverick batters.
The Lady Colonels travel to Central Arkansas March 14-15 to take on the Sugarbears of Central Arkansas. Game time is scheduled for noon and 2 p.m. respectively.
