The Colonel track team competed this past Saturday at the Louisiana Classics held at University of Louisiana Lafayette. It was a record setting performance for Colonel track athletes. Junior Rahjanaye Bailey broke the school record in the 100-meter hurdles event with a time of 14.58. Dominique Harris held the record previously of 14.68.
Junior Sabrina Henkes set the record in the 400-meter event with a time of 1:02.85. She broke her previous best time of 1:04.34.
Sophomore Imma Kosqei finished second in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:19.25.
Junior Leslie Bourgeois threw the javelin in a mark of 46.25 meters. This put her second in the event and the qualified her for the NCAA regional competition.
True freshman Samantha Calhoun recorded a time of 12.11 in the 100-meter dash. She exceeded her previous best time of 12.43 in the event.
“Overall, I was pleased with our performances in the second meet of the season and it was great preparation for next week,” head coach Scott Williamson said. “I think every athlete has really improved and it was great to see Rahjanaye and Sabrina break the school records.”
Nicholls will be back in action on Thursday, March 26 to compete in the Florida State Relays in Tallahassee, Fla.
