Nicholls students, faculty and staff members can partake in the food, music and entertainment of the annual Crawfish Day from noon to 5 p.m. today at John L. Guidry Stadium.”I am looking forward to a great day,” Jennifer White, auxiliary services coordinator and Student Programming Association adviser, said. “I hope everyone enjoys it.”
There will be a series of inflatable attractions for students to try out. New to Crawfish Day is a water attraction, the Aqua Glide. The Aqua Glide, is an inflatable slip and slide. Along with the Aqua Glide there will be a rock wall, mechanical bull and Equalizer.
The Equalizer is an inflatable field with a pole in the middle. Participants are attached to a bungee cord and given a Velcro football. The object is to run out as far as you can and place the football as close to the end of the inflatable as possible. Equalizer participants compete against other students in reaching out farther than their opponent.
A wax hand station will be available to create a wax mold of the hand. There will also be a photography stand where 3-D photographs can be taken.
The 3-D photographs are printed onto a card after you take your picture, White said. When the card is turned one way, the card shows an image, however, if the card is turned another way, the image changes, she said.
“DJ Slim will play the whole time,” Leah Talbot, English junior from Thibodaux and special events chairperson for Crawfish Day, said.
Some students are looking forward to the music. “I am a little disappointed that there is a DJ instead of a band this year,” Nicole St. Laurent, secondary education sophomore from Houma, said. “I look forward to the fact that music will be played there, but would prefer a band.”
SPA has ordered 520,000 pounds of boiled crawfish, corn, potatoes and squash from Heads and Tails, who have provided the crawfish for Crawfish Day for the past few years. For students who may not eat crawfish, hamburgers and sausage on buns will be served.
Students are also looking forward to the variety of food being offered at Crawfish Day. “I am looking forward to the food,” St. Laurent said. “I haven’t had crawfish in over a year.”
Many students are ready to have a good time as well. “I enjoy Crawfish Day because of the free food and having fun with my friends,” Ariel Ferchaud, mass communication junior from Vacherie, said. “The crawfish could be a bit spicier.”
All of the food, music and entertainment at Crawfish Day is free to Nicholls students with seven or more hours scheduled this semester. All Nicholls students must present a current, valid Colonel identification card when entering the stadium.
SPA has a backup plan in case it rains today. “We have the ballroom and Shaver Gym booked in case of a rain day,” Talbot said.
