The heart of homecoming festivities begin on Wednesday, Oct. 29 as the homecoming court will be announced at the homecoming pep rally at 12:15 p.m. in front of the Student Union. The annual pirogue races will follow the pep rally in Bayou Lafourche at 1:30 p.m.
Thursday, Oct. 30 will be a day filled with “silly games” sponsored by the Student Programming Association. Inflatable laser tag will be available in the quadrangle. At 5:30 that evening, the annual homecoming parade will take place around the streets of Thibodaux. A bonfire will be held immediately following the parade, and parade float awards will be announced. In conjunction with the parade, the college of business administration will be holding an alumni association homecoming social at Fremin’s Restaurant starting at 6:30 p.m.
“I really want students to focus on the parade and the bonfire,” Deborah Raziano, director of the alumni office, said. “Aside from the game, it’s showing our support for the University.”
The final day of homecoming, Saturday, Nov. 1, is sure to please those of all interests. The annual homecoming golf tournament will take place at Bayou Country Club. The women’s basketball team will be holding an open practice in Stopher Gym, with the men’s basketball team following with their own open practice. A homecoming tennis tournament will take place at the Nicholls tennis courts. The women’s volleyball team will play the University of Texas Arlington at 4 p.m. in Stopher Gym.
From 4 until 5:45 p.m. a homecoming buffet and pep rally celebration will be held in the quadrangle. At the celebration, awards will be given for the golf and tennis tournaments, inductions into the Athletic Hall of Fame will be held, and alumni recognized in the past year as “Another Nicholls Success Story” will be announced. Starting at 6 p.m. in John L. Guidry Stadium, the Nicholls State Colonels will take on the Sam Houston Bearkats. A half-time firework show sponsored by the Nicholls Alumni Federation and the Student Programming Association will also take place.
“Let’s go out and support the Colonels and support our university,” Raziano said. “Just make this a fun, safe homecoming for 2003.”
