This semester students can expect a variety of events from the Student Programming Association.
Students interested in learning about the organization can attend SPA week Jan. 26 to 29 in the Student Union.
On Monday SPA will have an information table set up in the Student Union. On Tuesday night SPA will have a session at 6:30 p.m. to discuss the different committees.
Crawfish Day, the largest of the semesters events, will take place on April 29. The highlight of this 23-year-old tradition is the 6,000 pounds of boiled crawfish that is served to students in the stadium.
SPA members are working on finalizing Crawfish Day plans. “We are going to step up our game and take it up another level,” Courtney Ponson, SPA president, said.
Another plan for April that the SPA is trying to focus on is a Spring Break bus trip. SPA has not finalized the location of the trip yet. According to Ponson, on average 75 to 100 students attend the bus trips.
March is a busy month for the SPA with three events planned. Comedy night will take place on March 11. No comedian is chosen yet, but SPA is “looking to do something different.”
March 17 is midterm breakfast. At midterm breakfast students are served breakfast by faculty and staff. A disc jockey also provides music to help students relax from the stress of studying for midterm exams.
March 24 is Casino Night, which will consist of different games for students to play.
SPA is also working with Gregory Evans, director of the Student Union. Ponson is looking at changing SPA’s tournaments committee into Union style committee.
“We will have a committee head strictly responsible for handing all activities within the Union,” Ponson said.
The committee head will work with Evans on choosing movies to play in LeBijou Theater and planning tournaments for students.
“Our goal is really to maintain the best student organization on campus and attract the best and brightest students on this campus.
