Senior outfielder Jeremy Hill popped the question to long-term girlfriend and senior shortshop Megan Gaspard after Nicholls’ series win over Southeastern last week.
The couple described their first encounter as “love at first sight.” Upon meeting, they said they knew instantly that they would be spending a lot of time together.
“The first time I met Jeremy was at Sanders Batting Cages,” Gaspard said. “After meeting him, the only thing running through my mind was, ‘that’s a nice looking man right there.’ I always told myself I would marry a ball player, and seeing Jeremy in uniform, I knew that he was my kind of ball player.”
Hill said he has always known that he would make Gaspard his wife. As a “proper gentleman,” he asked her parents for her hand in marriage several months ago.
“I had this planned for a while now,” Hill said. “I’ve always wanted a best friend and someone as loyal as Megan.”
Hill said he was nervous as the game ended, and he walked off the field towards Gaspard. He said he knew the question he was about to ask her would change his life forever.
“After the game, I was extremely nervous because I knew what was going on while Megan was clueless,” Hill said. “Something that big would make anyone nervous.”
Once he reached Gaspard, he pulled her in his arms. Tears of happiness filled her eyes as he dropped to his knee and asked if she would like to spend the rest of her life with him. Gaspard covered her face as she cried and nodded as he slipped the ring on her finger.
“The way he proposed to me was probably the best way he could have done it,” Gaspard said. “It was my birthday, and I figured our family and friends were simply there to celebrate it with me. I had absolutely no clue.”
Hill said he believed the baseball field was the perfect place to pop the question. Baseball has played such an influential part in both of their lives.
“I chose the baseball field because it’s a special place for the both of us,” Hill said. “My engagement is a day I will cherish for the rest of my life.”
The couple described their bond as being “strong and scarce,” and they said they are eager to begin their life together.
“I have constant butterflies, and every time I look at Jeremy, all I do is smile,” Gaspard said. “We have not officially set a date yet, but we are thinking not this summer, but next.”
Hill described Gaspard as being “one in a million.”
“Megan has the biggest heart and is so down to earth. I’m so glad she’s my fiancée,” he said.
Pure bliss overwhelmed Gaspard as she spoke about her fiancée.
“When I used to think of my perfect man, I could have never made Jeremy,” she said. “He is more of a man than I ever expected to have. I love him with my whole heart and soul, and I can’t wait to share my life with him.”
