The Lady Colonel softball team traveled to Oxford, Miss., for the Ole Miss Lady Rebel Classic over the weekend, and posted a 2-2 record at the tournament. Kyna Boyer led Nicholls with five hits and seven total bases in 12 at bats. Sarah Eads and Shauna Emola each recorded four hits, while Duffi Matherne started three games on the mound. She went 2-1, struck out 10 batters and allowed five earned runs while recording a shutout.

The Lady Colonels opened the season with a victory, scoring three runs on six hits Saturday.
Nicholls got all its runs in the third inning. Julie Rodriguez singled in Jen Ortego, before Boyer knocked in Rodriguez. Monica Hebert closed the scoring for Nicholls when she singled home Emola.
Matherne pitched the entire game, striking out seven and walking one.
Ole Miss 4 Nicholls 1
The Lady Colonels fell to the homestanding Lady Rebels 4-1 in the second game Saturday.
Nicholls pitcher Fallon Cancienne held the Lady Rebels in check through three innings, allowing no hits and walking one.
Ole Miss chased Cancienne from the game in the fourth inning, sending eight batters to the plate and scoring four runs on three hits and one Lady Colonel error.
The Lady Colonels got their only run of the game when Eads singled home Jill Chabert in the seventh inning.
Despite the loss, Nicholls out-hit the Lady Rebels six to four.
Nicholls 4 Tennessee-Martin
On Sunday, Nicholls sealed the win in the top of the seventh with three runs.
After Boyer doubled in a run in the fourth Tennessee-Martin’s, Tracy Fryer held Nicholls scoreless until the seventh.
Emola had a two-RBI double to highlight the inning.
Matherne retired 18 of the 22 batters she faced, scattered two hits and struck out three as Nicholls completed the sweep of Tennessee-Martin.
Ole Miss 7 Nicholls 4
Nicholls finished up the tournament with the three-run loss to Ole Miss.
Nicholls fell behind 5-2 after three innings, but answered when Ortego scored on an error in the fifth.
Ole Miss added single runs in the sixth and seventh. Nicholls scored its final run of the game when Hebert scored on an error in the sixth.
The Lady Colonels had a home doubleheader against Jackson State on Tuesday but was rained-out. Nicholls will next play at the Georgia State Invitational this weekend.
