The Lady Colonels soccer team lost 4-1 Monday to Grambling State University at Lady Colonels Field. It was the third game in four days for the Lady Colonels (2-2, 0-0), winning their previous two games over Jackson State and Southern University.
Junior Midfielder Tori Priddi had the lone goal for the Lady Colonels unassisted in the 14th minute of the game.
Grambling State (2-5, 0-0) made sure that no other Lady Colonel had a chance to score for the rest of the match.
Afao Obafemi put GSU on the board for the first time in the 19th minute of the game with an unassisted goal of her own.
Little time would pass before Natasha Nzekor, in the 24th minute, gave the Lady Tigers a 2-1 lead with the assist coming from Ashley Bryant.
As the second half started, the Lady Tigers did not ease up on Lady Colonel Sophomore Goalie Sarah Neunzig.
In the 57th minute Kari Davis dropped one in to make the score 3-1 in favor of visiting GSU.
Obafemi would net the final score for the Lady Tigers, with an assisted goal from Bryant.
Overall Nicholls was outshot 20-10, 11-6 in the first period and 9-4 in the second.
Goalie Sarah Neunzig allowed four goals while having seven saves for the Lady Colonels; Sherrice Fox only allowed one goal with four saves for GSU.
After the game Coach Cindy Piper was not happy with her team’s performance.
“No heart whatsoever.” Piper said. “We let the past two games get in our heads and we just didn’t play well at all.”
Nzekor led the Lady Tigers in shots with four, two shots on goal and one goal. Obafemi had three shots, with all three being on goal, with two goals.
Priddy and Sophomore Midfielder Jessica Schwartz both had two shots and two shots on goal, Priddy having the only goal for the Lady Colonels.
The team will now travel to face the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa tomorrow at 7p.m.
