Career Day 2003 will offer more than 80 employers on Oct. 8 for Nicholls students and alumni in the Cotillion Ballroom of the Donald G. Bollinger Memorial Student Union.
This is the 18th annual Career Day and will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The main goal of Career Day is to allow students an opportunity to meet with recruiters from various companies and organizations in hopes that they can find part time or full time employment.
It also allows employers wishing to hire Nicholls graduates to get a preview of future employees.
Career Services recommends that undergraduates also attend because it will give these students a chance to do career exploration. They can also look into companies for the future.
Nicholls State University Office of Career Services invites several different well-known companies and businesses from the area. After they reply, the employers pay a required $100 fee. The money collected goes toward the next career day.
Several local businesses will be attending Career Day 2003 including Entergy, Raising Canes, The Houma Courier, Garety Broadcasting, Bollinger’s Shipyard, Bellsouth, Cameco, Thibodaux Regional Medical Center, Terrebonne General, Mobiletel and Latelco.
Other businesses attending are Chevron-Texaco Corp., Enterprise Rent-A-Car, First Inventors, IRS and Coca Cola. Several graduate schools and law schools will also be in attendance.
Some companies are looking for students in specific majors while others look for any major to add diversity.
Upcoming Career Services programs include a Culinary Career Day that will take place on Oct. 9 and a job fair in March for allied health and nursing students.
“I would like to encourage all students to come dressed properly to Career Day because the first impressions do count. It is like a preliminary to an interview,” said Kristie Tauzin, Director of Career Services.
Career Services suggests that students looking for a job bring a resume. For help with a resume, students can visit Career Services in the Cotillion Ballroom. Students can also get a copy of the Career Guide there, which includes tips on resumes, cover letters and interviews.
Career Services will have a table set up in the Student Union to answer questions and information will be made available.
