Ninjas who fight.fruit? My apologies for finding this fantastic application so late, being that the game was released in April of this year. Have you ever had the dream of slicing fruit as it flies through the air with a samurai sword? Now’s your chance in this iPhone app hailing from Halfbrick studios called Fruit ninjas. What do you do in the game? You play as a ninja slicing fruit with your finger!
Sounds like a super cool game right? Of course it is! You’re slicing fruit! The game is simple and easy to follow (there’s a pattern of simple games for my reviews.) and the touch sensitive controls are excellent. All the game asks of you is to use your finger to slice every fruit in the game, and I mean every fruit. Apparently ninjas have had a secret hate for fruit for years and we just never knew about it. The menus even consist of you slicing a fruit to advance to another part of the menu.
In classic mode, (the main game mode) your job is to slice every fruit that is thrown up into the air. In this mode, you are given three strikes before the game is over, so the objective is to get a high score.
Along your fruit-slicing journey you are given a challenge, bombs are added to the mix after slicing a few fruits so do your best not to slice those or it’s instant game over. The more fruit you slice, the more points you get. You see why I said it was so simple?
There are a few more modes available if you grow tired of classic mode. There is a Zen mode where you are given 90 seconds to slice as many fruit as possible and there are no bombs to get in your way.
Two other modes included in the game are a multiplayer mode where you compete online and there was a recently added mode where classic mode has an added twist, you are given only 60 seconds to slice fruit, the bombs don’t give you a game over but they take away a ton of points and there are special bananas added that have special powerups.
All in all, this game is great for a quick pick-me-up kind of day. Personally, I play it when I need to run my battery down so I can charge it at night, but that’s just me. It’s not for the hardcore iPhone gamer because it doesn’t take much skill and the challenge wears off if you catch on too games quickly.
I know that you’re in college and all and I know shit is expensive these days, but if you have ninety nine cents, time to spare and an iPhone(which I’m sure you do because everyone and their mom has one now) pick up this game for a break from boredom.
Happy gaming.
