A resident of Ellender Hall was arrested on charges of battery of a police officer, disturbing the peace and resisting arrest on Oct. 13 after reportedly getting into an argument with an ex-boyfriend.According to University Police, Alissa Thompson, sociology junior from Gray, was upset that her ex-boyfriend was at Ellender Hall seeing another girl. Thompson was causing a disturbance outside of Ellender Hall and University Police was asked to assist.
“The young girl became aggressive and wouldn’t follow Sgt. (Vaughn) Ehrman’s instructions,” Craig Jaccuzzo, director of University Police said. “(Thompson) became combative and struck Ehrman several times and started fighting with him so he arrested her.”
Jaccuzzo said that Thompson was trying to strike her ex-boyfriend, but struck Ehrman, when he got between her and her ex-boyfriend.
Ehrman said that he asked Thompson to step away from her ex-boyfriend in order to calm the situation.
“When I asked her to step back and go across the street to diffuse the situation, she cursed me out,” Ehrman said. “I told her nicely that if she didn’t calm down she would have to sit in the back of my police car.” This is when Thompson pushed Ehrman and tried to run away from him.
Ehrman tried to stop her, and she turned around and slapped him on the back of his head. Ehrman also received some minor scratches from the incident. Thompson and her ex-boyfriend were injured during the incident.
According to Jaccuzzo, University Police submitted a report to the office of student affairs so that the University can take appropriate disciplinary action.
“She was disciplined,” Jaccuzzo said.
Ehrman said that in the future students should listen to a police officer.
“When you are approached by a police officer you should do what he says,” Ehrman said.
