The intramural sports season has already begun with flag football for both men and women students on campus. The men’s league is made up of two divisions, red and gray, while the women have only one.
The red division is the home to U.S.D.A, Whoosier Daddy, WolfPack, Desert Storm, Wal-Mart Shoppers, Bad Boys, C T Hunters, Fourchan Flyers, Hustla’s and West Nile.
The gray division is comprised of X-Factor, Young-Gunz, LA Purchase, Deuce’s Wild, Cross Seekers, White Berries, Leaky Hosepipes, Black Tips and B.U.F.F.
The Crusaders, No Name, Untouchables, Delta Zeta, Tri Sigma and Phi Mu make up the women’s league.
The storms played a factor in the start of the intramurals season and introduced the possibility that games would be postponed.
“There was a time after Rita hit that I didn’t think we would get the season off,” intramural coordinator Mike Abadie said. “We had those two hurricanes, and it was tough, but we got it off. The season’s going well, but the lack of games really hurt us.”
Each team will play four games over a span of six weeks that started Oct. 3 and will end Nov. 10.
Games are played Monday, Tuesday and Thursday at 3, 4 and 5 p.m., respectively.
At the end of the season, Nicholls will be able to send one team from each league to the state tournament at Louisiana Tech in Ruston.
At this time the tournament is slated to be Nov. 17-20.
“Right now we are in pool play, then we’ll probably take the top three teams from the two men’s divisions and let them play it out,” Abadie said. “We’ll probably do the same thing for the women’s league, maybe with just a few more teams.”
A flag football schedule can be picked up at campus recreation located at the front of Ayo pool.
Any students interested in participating in intramural sports should also go to campus recreation.
