To the Editor:Kudos to Lance Lapeyrouse for so elegantly saying what this students and many others have been thinking, “What the hell is going on here?!?” Having been at Nicholls for four great years and serving on the board of student organizations, I never once thought that the students’ voice would be ignored. Apparently the “new image” of Nicholls is to do just that! I chose to come to Nicholls based on family and Southern traditions, my father, mother, and numerous cousins all attended Nicholls before me. When my time came to choose a college, Nicholls was a natural choice. Had I found the mascot to be offensive I would not have chosen to come here. That is the advice I have for students who want to change traditions.
I have many fond memories of the much-loved and greatly misunderstood Tillou! I know that at graduation on May 15, Tillou will be in my mind and heart along with many other students who feel the same-too bad we will be mourning the death of our beloved mascot.
