Two all beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles and onions on a sesame seed bun. What American child grew up without those words ingrained in their minds? The Big Mac, or more specifically, the hamburger is a part of Americana, possibly the definitive American culinary icon. In Thibodaux, great hamburgers can be had at many eateries around town. From the national chains to the small mom and pop shops, bovine bliss seems to be around every corner.
Of the major national chains around town, Burger King is back in old form with the recent introduction of the Angus Steak Burgers. A delicious sandwich of fire-grilled 100 percent Angus beef, grilled onions and steak sauce on a corn flour dusted roll. This burger was a revelation. An explosion of flavor in every bite, something rarely seen in the churn and burn world of fast food restaurants. Though higher priced than other options available at BK, this burger is worth it.
Malt – N – Burger is one of my favorites among the smaller hamburger stands around town. These burgers are a trip down memory lane. Served fresh and hot off of the griddle, they are pure pleasure to the taste buds. If your attitude is Atkins’ be damned, then definitely pick up a malt. They also have plate lunches available Monday through Friday and a full menu including fried seafood and seafood stuffed pistolettes.
If you are going to talk about the best burgers in town, then Frostop needs to be mentioned. This establishment is the most consistent in town for a great burger and the best root beer on the planet. That is right, I said the planet. The Lott-Burger combo is also the best deal for the budget conscious student. A juicy, hot burger, fries and a delicious root beer for about four bucks and the ladies behind the counter always have on a smile.
Great food, friendly people and fair prices. What could be more American than that?
