The year of 2006 will be filled with a wide variety of movies being released.A large number of the 390 titles are set to be released this year will be sequels, such as “Final Destination 3,” “Mission: Impossible 3” and “Jackass 2.” Another sequel being released is “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest.”
“I’m going to go see ‘Final Destination 3,'” Dustin Bagwell, nursing sophomore from Morgan City, said. “I think that it will be a good movie. I mean the past two were pretty good.”
A large section of the movies being released this year will be horror films. Two horror film prequels will be released: “Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Origin” as well as “Hannibal: Behind the Mask.”
Many horror sequels are scheduled to be released in the 2006 year including “The Grudge 2” and “Saw 3,” both scheduled to be released in late October.
“I can’t wait to see ‘Hostel’ and ‘Saw 3’ because I really liked both ‘Saw’ and ‘Saw 2,'” Nicholas Bascle, psychology sophomore from Houma, said.
According to Entertainment Weekly, “Hostel,” released on Jan. 4, is No. 1 at the box office, grossing $20.1 million as of Jan. 8 and is being shown on 2,195 screens nationally. Presented by internationally-renowned filmmaker Quentin Tarantino, director Eli Roth’s “Hostel,” is the follow-up to the writer-director’s 2002 “Cabin Fever.”
Also coming to the screen in 2006 are films based on best-selling novels “The Da Vinci Code” and “The Devil Wears Prada.” The classic children’s book by E.B. White, “Charlotte’s Web,” will also be hitting the screens in 2006.
Hitting the theaters in June, “Superman Returns” is packed with stars such as Kevin Spacey as Lex Luthor, Kate Bosworth as Lois Lane and newcomer Brandon Routh as the man of steel.
Also hitting the big screen in 2006 will be the superheros in “X-Men 3.”
Set to be released in July 2006, “Miami Vice” will star Colin Farrell and Oscar-winner Jamie Foxx.
Scary remakes for 2006 will include “The Omen 666,” which is a remake of the 1976 horror classic and “The Evil Dead,” the original version which spawned a franchise with the equally successful installments “Evil Dead II” and “Army of Darkness.
