A freshman was arrested on charges of simple battery by domestic violence and attempted simple kidnapping on Nov. 9.Jaren Howard from Marrero was released from the Lafourche Parish Detention Center on the same day after posting a $15,000 bond.

University Police received a report at approximately 2:14 p.m. of a fight in progress behind the student union. University Police Sgt. Steve Tullis arrived at the scene at approximately 2:19 p.m. and was advised that the fight was no longer in progress.

Howard allegedly tried to grab a female student by the arm and force her against her will into his vehicle during an argument, according to Tullis.

She escaped from Howard and ran back into the student union, Tullis said.

Tullis said that a male student stopped Howard as he followed her into the union.

After arriving at the scene, Tullis escorted Howard to University Police in order to obtain a statement from him.
