Steve Escobar, Student Government Association director of rights and grievances, challenged SGA senators at yesterday’s meeting to at least present two motions next week.”There is absolutely nothing going on in this meeting,” Escobar said during the meeting’s discussion period. “I remember when the Senate used to fight for a half hour on some crazy issue, but at least we were doing something.”
SGA President Damian Breaux said the Senate represents more than 6000 students but is not accomplishing anything.
“Students are complaining about things, and we should be listening,” Breaux said. “Students are being hit by cars in the crosswalks. We need to address these issues and do our job.”
Breaux said a resolution will be brought up next week to address the problems with the Babington crosswalk. This week a student was hit by a car while trying to cross the street; last semester a similiar incident occurred.
“One student is too many but two students are far too many,” Breaux said.
Two motions were passed at yesterday’s meeting. Brandon Keller was appointed to the Election Commission, and $40 will be contributed to the Black History Month Closing Reception on Feb. 22 to purchase frames for awards.
