Kelsi Guidry, health and wellness senior from Cut Off, started his own Web site, collegewants.com, last year to help students sell books and other items online.Q: Why did you create this Web site?
A: Once the semester was over, students would sell their books back to the Nicholls’ bookstores and get less than what they paid for them. Because of this, students would advertise around campus on bulletin boards to try to get back the amount they paid for their textbooks.
Q: How do students use your site?
A: First, you log onto the site and sign up as a user. Each new member who joins is given the chance to advertise one item for free. After using your free listing, you can choose to list an item for a certain amount of time for a low cost. If you purchase items you can arrange for the item to be shipped to you or you can arrange to meet the seller for pick-up.
Q: What kind of items can students buy or sell on your Web site?
A: Students can buy or sell items such as textbooks, furniture and appliances, computer items, and DVDs. There are many categories on my Web site things can be listed under.
Q: Do you have any other sites in the making?
A: I have a Web site, teenwants.com, which targets the teenage crowd and allows them to buy and sell items. Another Web site I own is ebayexpresse.com which is a Web site that redirects a person who may have typed the ebayexpress.com Web site incorrectly. Each time my site redirects someone to the ebayexpress.com Web site I get a commission for the sales. The last of my Web sites is pokerwants.com which is an online poker Web site that teaches you different poker strategies, directs you to where you can purchase poker books and tells you when and where online poker tournaments will be taking place.
Q: Is this a self-run Web site or do you get help from others?
A: Grant Gautreaux, a manufacturing engineering technology junior from Pierre Part, has been helping me out by placing fliers about the Web site on vehicles and helping with general advertisements for the Web site.
