The Colonel Card is now accepted at The Coffee Table, Textbook Rental and Wendy’s. “We have approached some businesses, and some said yes and others said no,” Allison Ayo, director of the Colonel Card office, said.
The off-campus businesses that agreed when Nicholls approached them are Textbook Rental on Goode Street, The Coffee Table and Wendy’s on Audubon Avenue. Wendy’s made an agreement with Nicholls in January 2006 and Textbook Rental accepted an agreement with Nicholls in 2002. In addition, The Coffee Table made an agreement with Nicholls in 2003. Nicholls sent an E-mail to students saying they can now use their Colonel Cards at Wendy’s in January 2006.
Ariel Ferchaud, mass communications senior from Vacherie, said, “I like the fact that I can go to Wendy’s and The Coffee Table to use my Colonel Card; it’s quick and easy.”
“The way Nicholls is advertising for the off-campus locations is by sending E-mails to students and postcards to the faculty,” Ayo said. “All three off-campus locations have stickers on the store building stating, ‘We accept the Colonel Card.’
Several students did not know the places where they can use their Colonel Cards off-campus. “Even though I use my card on-campus, I did not know I could use my Colonel Card off-campus,” Jarren Saul, pre-dental sophomore from Vacherie, said.
However, many students assume that they can use their Munch Money at off-campus locations; that is not the case. Munch Money is an account connected to the University Food Services meal plan that holds a declining balance. Munch Money can only be used at the University Food Services locations on-campus until the end of the semester. It is non-refundable money; students use it, or they will lose it.
The Colonel Card can also be utilized on-campus at Vernon F. Galliano Hall Cafeteria, Chick-Fil-A, Selona Grill, Jazzman’s Caf, Godfather’s Pizza, Caf a la Cart, Convenience Store (La Maison du Bayou), Subconnection (La Maison du Bayou) and at concessions for football and basketball stands.
“It is not Munch Money, it is cash the students put on their card,” Ayo said. The Munch Money is only used at on-campus locations.
“We should be able to use our Munch Money at off-campus locations as well,” Sheena Bouie, athletic training senior from New Orleans, said.
Fee Collections in Elkins Hall is the place students need to go to put cash on their Colonel Cards. Students can also deposit money into their Colonel Card accounts online or at machines located in the student union and in Peltier Hall.
Some colleges that also allow their students to deposit and use their identification cards off-campus are Marist College in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.; College of New Jersey in Ewing, N.J.; Smith College in Boston, Mass.; Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, N.J. and the University of Denver in Denver, Colo.
