New campus organization is about more than just fashion

Fashionistas at Nicholls have joined together to create a new organization on campus that is both fun and charitable.

Couture Cares is an organization that is bringing together students interested in fashion or wanting to learn more about fashion while also being geared toward raising cancer awareness. Darian Graivshark, founder of Couture Cares and junior business pre-law major from Mandeville, explained her inspiration for creating Couture Cares.

“I’ve always wanted to start an organization like this since high school, but I got my push when my grandmother was diagnosed with cancer,” Graivshark said. “So I figured, why not combine something I enjoy with something I want to fight against? All while bringing other passionate people into the mix.”

The organization plans to have guest speakers at their monthly meetings to talk about fashion. It also plans to have small fundraisers throughout the semester to raise money towards cancer research. Graivshark explained how she wants everyone interested to come out and participate.

“I’m sure it will be heavily weighted towards the female students at Nicholls, but I strongly encourage the men to come too,” Graivshark said. “I’d love to get some men fashionistas to come speak and share wisdom with the men who are interested in learning anything about fashion. I just need their participation to make that happen.”

The organization’s main focus is to put on a fashion show, which has been scheduled for the upcoming spring semester. Clothes from the runway will be auctioned off and there will be baskets for raffle. All proceeds will go to cancer research.

“I wanted to bring people together to have a fun time and bring something new and different to Nicholls that nobody has experienced before” said Graivshark.

The first meeting of this semester will be held on Wednesday, August 31 at 4 p.m. in the Plantation Suites.
