Mr. and Ms. Nicholls nominationees prepare for Elections

Next week is the Mr. and Ms. Nicholls election and candidates are preparing for the announcement of the winner.

It is the highest honor to have the title of Mr. or Ms. Nicholls, as two students are about to become the faces of the University. In order to be considered for the title, all the nominees must submit a co-curricular transcript, have 85 earned credit hours, at least a 2.5 grade point average and have been nominated by a student organization. Each organization is allowed to nominate one male and one female to be represented. Candidates are selected by a selection committee and have to have outstanding co-curricular.

The nominees who receive the most points get onto the ballot, and the student body of the university holds the decision of who they deem necessary to receive the title of Mr. and Ms. Nicholls.

Finalists for Mr. Nicholls are as follows: Tyler Dufrene nominated by The Honor Society Phi Kappa Phi, Adam Lefort nominated by the Panellenic Association, Nicholas Martin nominated by Phi Mu Fraternity and Anthony Naquin nominated by Sigma Alpha Epsilon.

Finalists for Ms. Nicholls are as follows: Carolanne Moore nominated by the Inter Fraternal Council, Mary Sauce nominated by Sigma Alpha Epsilon, and Hannah Waguespack nominated by the Pre-Professional Medical Association.

Both male and female winners will receive the honorary title and sashes as well hold the title as Mr. and Ms. Nicholls for one year.

Elections will take place on Mar. 22, 2015 at 12:00 p.m. and the polls will close on Mar. 25, 2015 at 11:59 p.m.

Students can vote online, and there will also be a booth located in the student union where students can stop to place their vote.

The title of Mr. and Ms. Nicholls has been around the University for a long time. Students look for candidates who can represent the University in a positive light bringing forth hard work and dedication as well as bring about change.

Some of the Mr. and Ms. Nicholls finalist share their thoughts about being able to participate in such an honorary event.

“It feels great to be able to represent my University,” said nominee Anthony Naquin. “I am thankful for all the opportunities I have been given, and I have just worked hard my four years here to ensure others could have those same experiences.”

Nominee Mary Sauce said, “I never thought in a million years I would be one of the finalists. I have always looked up to previous winners of Ms. Nicholls, only hoping that one day I could do so much for my University as they had.”

“Being from Thibodaux, I never thought I would come to the school in my backyard. I could not be more thankful for the opportunities I’ve been given, the friends I’ve made and the education I’ve received because of this incredible university. I am beyond proud to be a Colonel.”

The winners will be announced on Crawfish Day, which is Apr. 24, 2015 around 3 p.m. or later.
