Nicholls State University hosted a health and wellness fair on April 18.

The event was put on by the University Counseling Center and organized by Elnora Parker Vicks, counselor and outreach coordinator.

Vicks said that a wellness fair was put on by the university last year and that the counseling center participated in it.

This is the first year the counseling center is hosting it, and they said they want to make it an annual event.

“The mental health and just overall wellness of our students is very important,” Vicks said.

Programs offered on campus and off campus were at the fair to provide information to the students.

Some of the programs included: Nicholls State University Health Services, Campus Recreation, Nicholls Student Educators and Leaders (SEALS), South Central Louisiana Human Services Authority, Magnolia Family Services LLC., American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, Thibodaux Regional Behavioral Health and The Haven.

Vicks also invited a holistic therapist center for those interested in the holistic side of the body.

Vicks said the event was held to give students the opportunity to find access to the resources they may need during this time in their lives.

Vicks also said it was an opportunity for students to get an agency’s card if they are interested in working in that field.
