On April 3, Colonel Catholics hosted Jason Evert’s talk on “How to Save Your Marriage Before You’re Married” in Peltier Auditorium.

Mitch Semar, the priest at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Center, introduced Evert before his talk. He said that Evert has traveled across the world speaking on the topic of chastity.

Evert defined chastity as the “virtue that orders sexual desire.”

He then went into steps a young person can take in order to save their marriage before they are married.

Some of Evert’s steps included: enjoy the season of singleness; the foundation of lasting love is friendship; if you want love, you have to face the fears in your life; never enter a relationship looking for the love only God is meant to give; make commitment clear; guard the innocence and purity of your love; wait until you’re married to move in with each other; and chastity does not end when you get married.

At the end of his talk, Evert said to stay close to people, their family and their church.

“Surround yourself with friends whom they want to be like,” Evert said.

He also said they should seek out the sacraments offered by the Catholic church.

Adoration and confession was offered at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Student Center following the talk.

Evert also had a table with his book written by himself and fellow colleagues in the Chastity Project for purchase.
