The Nicholls State University chemistry department hosted Shiva Adireddy, guest speaker, to teach students about his company and what the company’s goals are.

Adireddy got his PhD from the University of New Orleans and his business degree from Tulane University.

Adireddy co-founded Advano and is the chief technological officer.

According to Adireddy, Advano is dedicated to solving the problems of working with silicon when it comes to batteries.

During Adireddy’s “Making Lithium-Ion Batteries Better Using Silicon Nanotechnology” presentation, he said there are many problems with lithium batteries. His company is dedicated to solving those problems using silicon.

Adireddy said acknowledges there are problems with working with silicon, too. Over the years, the company has shown progress with its research.

“Lithium-ion batteries are coming into our lives, but they are not always the best. The battery is limited by the materials used to make it,” Adireddy said.

According to Adireddy, as technology advances, the number of people using it will increase, too.

This means that more storage will be needed for the clean energy. Adireddy said that currently, 60 percent of the energy created is going to waste. His company wants to change that.

Adireddy said that over the course of his work, he faced many failures but learned from them all.

Adireddy said he encourages students to take risks and work for a company that wants to change the world. He also said you are not limited by your skills all of the time, but sometimes all that matters is a person’s work ethic.
