We’re in need of more campus liveliness
March 22, 2019
Although attending a small school offers many benefits in the classroom, we do miss out on other aspects of college life in which larger schools tend to indulge.
From more dining options to constant on-campus activities, larger campuses offer more reasons for the student body to be involved with campus life.
Don’t get me wrong; I, along with almost everyone else on campus for that matter, am overjoyed with the addition of Chick-fil-A to Nicholls. However, we did have to make a sacrifice with the riddance of Jazzman’s Cafe. We had to eliminate one dining venue to build another, which is definitely missing a drive-thru, by the way.
In a perfect world, we would have a wholesome cafe and dessert place, along with our beloved chicken establishment. Is that really too much to ask?
Moreover, the addition of more establishments on campus would make for a more lively campus after typical class time. Unlike larger colleges that have things going on all day, campus is usually dead after 3 p.m. or so every day at smaller colleges.
Whether it be more events like Waffle Night or even video game tournaments, extra student engagement around campus would be beneficial to both students and the university itself.
Also, achieving a lively campus is not completely reliant on the university, but we, the students, have a hand in this, too.
Nicholls has a typically good reputation for listening to the student body’s ideas and suggestions, so let’s make something happen here. I’m sure at least some of our students have some time after class to hang out and socialize.
Make some suggestions; form some clubs. Let’s make the most of what we have while pushing for new activities for which students can indulge.
Maybe I’m the only one who feels that we’re lacking in terms of liveliness on campus, and maybe I’m envisioning unrealistic expectations for the size of our campus. Either way, some new activities and a livelier campus would be beneficial to everyone around.
