Baseball begins 2019 season with home series
After making it to the semifinals of the 2018 SLC Tournament, the baseball team is set to begin its 2019 campaign with a home series against Southern Illinois on Feb. 15, 16 and 17 at Ray E. Didier Field.
Friday’s game will begin at 1 p.m., Saturday’s game will beginning at 2:30 p.m. and Sunday’s game will begin at noon.
Softball to play first home game ahead of heavy road schedule
The softball team will host Southern Miss at Swanner Field on Feb. 13 at 6 p.m. in its first home game of the 2019 season before heading on the road for a month.
The Colonels will then travel to Houston, Texas to compete in the Houston Classic from Feb. 15 through 17. They are set to face Nevada twice, on Friday at 10:30 a.m. and on Saturday at 2 p.m.
Additionally, the team will play Maryland on Friday at 1 p.m., Houston on Saturday at 7 p.m. and UL-Monroe on Sunday at 11:30 a.m.
The team is coming off of a 3-2 showing at the Lion Classic in Hammond.
Men’s golf to compete in first away tournament of spring season
Following a second-place tie at the LaTour Collegiate Challenge at the LaTour Golf Club in Mathews on Feb. 2, the men’s golf team is set to travel to Mobile, Ala. to compete in the Mobile Sports Authority Intercollegiate.
Hosted by South Alabama, the tournament will take place on Feb. 11 and 12 beginning at 8 a.m. at the Magnolia Grove Golf Course.
The Colonels will compete against 14 other teams, including Southern Miss., UL-Lafayette, Louisville, Florida State and Southland Conference competitor Abilene Christian.
Last season, the team tied for 10th place at the Mobile Sports Authority Intercollegiate.
Women’s basketball looks to stay undefeated in February
The women’s basketball team is set to travel to Texas this week to take on Abilene Christian in Abilene, Texas on Feb. 13 at 6 p.m. and Houston Baptist in Houston, Texas on Feb. 16 at 2 p.m.
A pair of victories would keep the Colonels undefeated in the month of February, following wins over Southeastern on Feb. 2 and New Orleans on Feb. 9.
Men’s basketball competes to improve to 7-1 at home
Following a 64-63 victory over New Orleans on Feb. 9, the men’s basketball team will return home to host Abilene Christian on Feb. 13 at 7 p.m. A win would improve the team’s home record to 7-1.
The Colonels will then get back on the road to face Houston Baptist in Houston, Texas on Feb. 16 at 7 p.m., following the women’s game.
Women’s tennis hosts Jackson State following shutout victory
The women’s tennis team is set to continue its home play by hosting Jackson State at the Colonel Tennis Complex on Feb. 16 at noon. A win would improve the team’s record to 2-2.
The team is coming off of a 4-0 shutout at home over Prairie View A&M on Feb. 9.
Men’s tennis looks to advance to 2-1 at home
After overcoming a 1-0 deficit to beat Prairie View A&M 5-2 on Feb. 9, the men’s tennis team will also compete in a doubleheader at home against Jackson State.
A victory over the Tigers would improve the Colonels to 2-1 at home.
