Best restaurants around town for a college student budget
January 25, 2019
As restaurants and fast food joints compete for the college kid’s last dollar, there are choices to be made. Nothing compares to ordering three cheeseburgers off the McDonald’s dollar menu or pulling up to the Burger King window and rolling away with ten chicken nuggets and a dollar well spent.
Sonic, for example, lives for a good deal. Their different promotions throughout the week make for fun outings and full bellies. Half-off cheeseburgers start at 5 p.m. on Tuesdays, half-priced drinks and slushies are from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. every day and half-priced shakes are every day after 8 p.m.
These fast food options are great and, sometimes, necessary after a long day on campus. However, there may be a few options students are unaware of that also fit in their budget.
With a Facebook review of 4.7 out of 5, Coco’s Mexican Food sounds like the place to be. Serving Mexican food with a twist, inexpensive options are available as customers can create their own burrito, quesadilla, nachos and other entrees. A popular option is to try one of their specialty tacos at only a few dollars each, like the famous coconut shrimp tacos.
For sushi lovers, Geaux Fish is located close to campus off of Audubon Ave. All regular rolls are priced at $3 to $5, providing quality sushi with a fulfilling amount. If feeling a little luxurious, specialty rolls begin at $10, or the fried rice entree with or without pineapples is less than $10.
Wednesday nights sound like a great night for calzones, especially when they are half-priced at Rotolo’s. Offering choices of specialty pizza, or calzones and pasta, Rotolo’s is the place in Thibodaux for Italian, and there may be a big screen with the game on.
For an all-American option with a little bit of a southern feel, Alumni Grill has everything, including friendly service. Try the burger of the month with a side of sweet potato chips for a reasonable price.
For dessert, Orange Leaf Frozen Yogurt offers students discounted yogurt with proof of a Colonel Card, no matter how many toppings are falling off the top.
