Sneaker Feature: New releases bring prosperity to the sneaker market

September 18, 2018

Whether it was new sneaker releases, hyped restocks or brand statements, a lot has happened as of lately as far as the sneaker world goes. With several notable shoes being released one after another, we’re just not sure if we can keep up.

Jordan Brand is continuing the Jordan 1 train with the releases of the Court Purple and Pine Green OG colorways this weekend on Sept. 22. These sneakers have a ton of hype surrounding them, and a resulting flood of L’s will be dished out to disappointed Nike SNKRS users everywhere.

On another note, the infamous Nike x Off-White collab continues with the Blazer Mid “Spooky Pack.” The pack features the Off-White Blazers in a Black/White colorway as well as a Canvas/Orange colorway. Although the shoe will be very limited and basically unattainable, the model is definitely one for the books.

Amidst what’s been going on with Colin Kaepernick and Nike, Nike and as its branches like Jordan have not shown any signs of slowing down in terms of their streetwear and sneaker business. Nike’s signing of Kaepernick has not deterred any high fashion brands from associating with them, proven by the continued collaborations with Off-White as well as the upcoming release of the Comme Des Garçons x Supreme Air Force 1. Nike has been making lots of moves lately and they all appear to be aimed in the right direction as far as sneaker culture is concerned.

As a partner of Under Armour, A$AP Rocky recently released the AWGE x Under Armour SRLo as his first ever sneaker. The Harlem rapper’s sneaker was limited to only 250 pairs in both of the two colorways. Under Armour signed the renown fashion influence in an attempt to boost the brand’s street cred by rebuilding and redesigning the branding to appeal to a more fashionable audience. The partnership between Rocky and the traditional sportswear brand has been in the woodworks for quite some time now, so there’s no telling what else they could be cheffing up.

Lastly, we can’t sleep on Adidas and their hyped forthcoming sneaker releases. With the restock of the original Yeezy 700 Waverunner along with the leaks of new colorways for the fashion-forward dad shoe, Yeezy alone is out here doing work and making waves for Adidas. Aside from Yeezy, the three stripes brand has a collaboration with Dragon Ball Z set to drop on September 29. The collab will feature characters Goku and Frieza on the Adidas infamous models Yung-1 and the ZX 500 RM.

With brands like Nike, Adidas and even Under Armour bringing out hyped shoes, it’s safe to say the sneaker market and culture is healthy and prospering. Releases like these are proof that the sneaker culture and market holds a promising future, and hopefully we will continue to see new drops like these in the months to come.
