A letter to the students from SGA President Grant Henry
August 20, 2018
You’ve already accomplished so much! You survived one of the hottest summers on record, you worked all summer, your FAFSA check posted to your account, your favorite artists released their best albums to date and now it’s your turn to give the 2018-19 school year all you got! To freshmen and transfer students, we welcome you to campus, a place of immense opportunity with a unique culture and to upperclassmen, welcome back to the place that only moves forward because of YOU.
My name is Grant Tedric Henry, your 2018-2019 Student Government Association President. I’d like to formally thank you once again for entrusting me to serve not only my peers, but the University and the Thibodaux community. I’d like to remind each of you that I advocate on behalf of all 5,647 of you to our University Administration and to our legislators. I will always have your best interest at heart. Making your student experience incredible has been the priority of myself, the SGA staff, and the entire Nicholls administration, faculty, and staff throughout this entire summer. Come into the Student Government Association office, located in the Student Union, and let us know how we can continue to serve YOU.
Moving forward into this fall semester, Nicholls State University is embracing many new beginnings. We are embracing Dr. Jay Clune in his first full year as Nicholls President. We are embracing facelifts to Ellender Memorial Library, Bollinger Student Union, parking, and Wi-Fi across campus. We are embracing new clubs and organizations like Colonels Retention of Winners Network and the Black Student Union. There’s so much to embrace about Nicholls State University this upcoming school year, and these changes are all inspired by YOU.
I haven’t always been a model student but I hope that you can take my advice not have to make the same mistakes as I had to! First, explore NSU. Nicholls offers an abundance of resources to ensure your success in and out of the classroom. Don’t be afraid to explore and find out how YOU can be the best version of yourself. Second, embrace NSU. “One Pride, Colonel Pride” is a resounding phrase that encapsulates why being a Colonel is a unique experience. Know that you are apart of the “Nicholls Renaissance,” and that you will be apart of some of the best times this university has experienced in our short, storied history. Third, be YOU. You are Nicholls State University. Your experience truly is what you make of it, there are people in place to see to it that your experience will be exactly what you want.
Make this school year the best year yet because your success at Nicholls State University starts now!
