SAAC hosts Colonel Choice Awards

The Student Athlete-Advisory Committee (SAAC) hosted the fourth annual Colonel Choice Awards on April 30 at Peltier Auditorium.
Nicholls student-athletes and coaches enjoyed an evening of awards with junior softball pitcher Megan Landry and junior football long snapper Wesley Barnett running the show. Landry took home the Female Academic Excellence Award.
Many other student-athletes were presented awards as well, with senior men’s golf player Albert Badosa-Soler and junior women’s basketball guard Cassidy Barrios earning the Male and Female Student-Athlete of the Year Awards respectively.
The Nicholls soccer team proved to be the best in the classroom as it earned the President’s Awards for Academic Excellence and Improvement.
The Nicholls women’s basketball team got the Team of the Year Award after its record-setting season and Southland Conference (SLC) Tournament Championship.
Head strength and conditioning coach Greg Carrasquillo earned the Faculty/Staff Member of the Year Award, and head cross country and track and field coach Stefanie Slekis garnered the Coach of the Year Award.
These awards occurred during a successful year for Nicholls State University Athletics. The Nicholls football team made the playoffs for the first time in 12 seasons.
The Nicholls men’s basketball team earned a share of the Southland Conference (SLC) regular season title, and the women’s basketball team advanced to NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history.
The Nicholls softball team is vying for a chance to win the Southland Conference (SLC) Tournament title after finishing as runners-up last season.
