The Nicholls State University baseball team has won two out of its last four games, improving their overall record to 32-13 and their Southland Conference record to 15-6.
GAME RECAPS
Last Friday Nicholls began a three-game series for the Colonels in Hammond against Southeastern Louisiana University.
Nicholls started off the series strong, securing a 6-3 win over the Lions. After two scoreless innings for both teams, the Colonels scored the first run in the third inning and tacked on another five in the seventh.
The Colonels dropped the next two games, which took place in double-header format on April 21 due to weather.
The first game resulted in a 9-2 loss with the second game resulting in a similar score of 10-3.
The Lions opened the first game with an explosive first inning where they hammered in seven runs. The second game saw the Colonels taking the lead only in the fourth inning, but the Lions answered and held the Colonels to only two runs until the eighth inning where they tacked on one more.
This Tuesday the Colonels came back after two losses on the road with a huge 12-3 win over Southern University in Baton Rouge.
Junior pitcher Parker White had a solid performance on the mound to propel the Colonels to victory in their mid-week matchup.
Offensively, five different Colonel batters earned two RBI’s and the Jaguars could not respond.
LOOKING FORWARD
The Colonels are scheduled to host Southland Conference opponent Lamar University this weekend for a three-game series slated to commence on Friday, April 27 at 6 p.m.
This matchup will be crucial, with the Cardinals sitting just below the Colonels in the Southland Conference standings. After this series, the Colonels will have three more Southland Conference teams to face before the end of the regular season.
