Softball continued winning streak on newly renovated home field

The Nicholls State University softball team maintained its winning streak that began with a 6-1 victory over the University of North Texas Mean Green in the North Texas Invitational March 3.
GAME RECAPS
The Colonels left the tournament to face their first Southland Conference (SLC) opponent of the 2018 season, the Houston Baptist University Huskies, in a three-game series.
On March 9, Nicholls defeated HBU twice to run its winning streak to four games.
In the first matchup, junior shortstop and outfielder Amanda Gianelloni hit a home run in the sixth inning to propel the Colonels to a 4-2 win.
In the second game, the Colonel offense exploded with 18 hits in the rematch and seven runs in the fifth inning, and they beat the Huskies 9-3.
On March 10, Nicholls cruised by HBU 6-2 to sweep the three-game series.
HOME, SWEET HOME
After playing on the road for their first 21 games of the year, the Colonels returned home to the newly renovated Swanner Softball Field to play the Mississippi Valley State University Delta Devils on Tuesday.
In a doubleheader, Nicholls defeated MVSU 10-2 and 7-1, entertaining the Colonel fans in attendance and running their winning streak to seven games.
LOOKING AHEAD
The Colonels (16-7, 3-0 SLC) currently stand at the top of the Southland Conference, along with the Northwestern State University Demons (16-7, 3-0 SLC).
The Red and Gray face another conference opponent, the Stephen F. Austin State University Lumberjacks (13-9, 3-0 SLC), for a three-game series this weekend at home.
Then the Colonels travel to Hammond and play the Southeastern Louisiana University Lions March 23-24.
