Softball splits half of their last six games

The Nicholls State University softball team won three of their last six games, with five of the games as part of the North Texas Invitational.

GAME RECAPS
The Colonels faced the University of Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles on Feb. 28 and won 11-2, with the offense hitting three home runs and scoring six runs in the sixth inning.

The Colonels then traveled to Texas to participate in the North Texas Invitational.

On Mar. 2, they lost to the University of Tulsa Golden Hurricanes 11-3 and the University of Texas at Arlington Mavericks 4-1.

On Mar. 3, in a rematch with Golden Hurricanes, the Colonels lost 9-6, but defeated the University of North Texas Mean Green 6-1.

On Mar. 4, the Red and Gray ended the weekend in style with a 10-7 win over the Mean Green.

CONFERENCE PLAY STARTING
Nicholls ranks third in the Southland Conference in terms of their overall record, as no team has yet to play conference games.

Ahead of the Red and Gray are the McNeese State University Cowboys (16-5) and the Northwestern State University Demons (12-7).

The Southland Conference ranks teams based on their conference records, and these rankings will determine the team seedings for the Southland Conference Tournament in May.

LOOKING AHEAD
The Colonels (11-7) open conference play this weekend against the Houston Baptist University Huskies (2-7).

The Huskies play on the road at Texas State University (14-7) on Wednesday before hosting the Colonels this weekend for three games.

After the road trip, the Red and Gray will compete at home at the newly renovated Swanner Softball Complex against the Mississippi Valley State University Delta Devils Mar. 13 and the Stephen F. Austin University Lumberjacks Mar. 16-17.
