The Student Government Association passed a motion to sponsor attendance to the National Collegiate Sales Competition at its meeting yesterday afternoon.

The sponsorship, which totals $700, will allow for six students to attend the competition.

“What this will allow is for the sales team to go this competition…It allows them to meet with people,” said SGA President Tommy Thibodeaux. “I was able and very lucky to go to some of these competitions…It’s a great opportunity.”

In addition, Director of Student Rights and Grievances Peyton Chiasson, who serves as a student representative on the courses and curricular committee with Director of Public Relations Josie Graham, discussed updates to Nicholls’ new criminal justice major. The committee voted individually on the 16 classes that would make up the criminal justice curriculum.

“The courses and curricular committee deleted all the old criminal justice courses that we had left over, so there are 16 new courses that we added, and now there’s a full curriculum that is made for that,” said Chiasson.

The program will act as an extension to Fletcher Technical Community College’s criminal justice program.

“It is kind of a continuation of Fletcher’s program. If you do the associate’s, you can come and finish and get the bachelor’s. And it is also a four-year bachelor degree. So it’s a bachelor’s of science in criminal justice,” said Chiasson.

The committee’s course recommendations will have to pass through administrative approval next.

SGA also passed a motion to renew a $1,000 athletic scholarship, and tabled a motion to purchase direction signs for Gouaux Hall.
