George Bell, a Nicholls alumnus and trumpeter from the Lafourche area, will perform with his ensemble George Bell & Friends in the Mary and Al Danos Theater on Feb. 18.

George Bell & Friends is a nine-person ensemble featuring a pianist, guitarist, percussionist, saxophonist, flutist, harpist and a vocalist. All of the performers are from Louisiana, including two from the Thibodaux area.

Bell has played the trumpet for 49 years, beginning in the fifth grade. His older brother and elementary school introduced him to music.

While majoring in government, Bell performed many times at Nicholls in various organizations such as the marching band, jazz ensemble and concert band.

“[I am] delighted to be back in to play in the newly renovated theater,” Bell said.

George Bell & Friends will perform “an afternoon of romantic jazz in celebration of Valentine’s Day,” Bell said. The concert will include jazz standards and love themes that come from different artists.

“My goal is to give the audience a musical experience that will both entertain and inspire them,” Bell said.

Nicholls’ website says that the George Bell & Friends concert will take place in the Mary and Al Danos Theater at 3:00 p.m. on Feb. 18. General public tickets cost $35 and student tickets cost $5.
