Third straight win for women’s basketball
February 14, 2018
The Nicholls State University women’s basketball team won its third straight game Saturday at Stopher Gym. The Colonels (11-12, 6-6 SLC) still sit at the eighth spot in the Southland Conference standings as the season approaches the conference tournament.
GAME RECAP
The Colonels faced the Houston Baptist Huskies and earned an impressive victory.
Junior guard Cassidy Barrios earned her 12th double-double of the season with 21 points and 10 rebounds, and added four assists, four steals and four blocks.
Sophomore guard Tykeria Williams scored 13 points, senior guard Tia Charles had 11 points and redshirt senior center Marina Lilly added 10 points and seven rebounds.
The defense forced 15 turnovers, and the Colonels made a perfect 16-for-16 from the foul line.
ANALYSIS
The third time is in fact the charm for the Colonels.
This win marked their third win in a row after they had lost four games in a row.
The free throw line can serve as the bread and butter for a team, and the Colonels clearly had an advantage over the Huskies by making every one of their 16 attempts.
The stellar play of Barrios, Williams, Charles, Lilly and the supporting cast all contributed to this turnaround, and it looks like it will continue.
LOOKING AHEAD
Nicholls will travel for their next games. They play at Central Arkansas on Saturday before heading back to Thibodaux Feb. 21.
