5 Valentine’s Day gifts that she DOESN’T want

February 12, 2018

For couples, Valentine’s Day always goes in one of two ways: a romantic success or a heartbreaking disaster. Here are 5 things not to get your significant other to ensure that you both end up on the preferred side of this February 14th .

1. Generic Cards– Imagine you put a whole lot of thought into a gift, only to receive a basic card with just a signature inside. Everything is hitting the fan. Instead of buying a basic card from your nearest Walgreens, make a card that’ll show them you care as much as you say you do. It doesn’t have to be a Mona Lisa; just make a personalized card accompanied by flowers or something, if you want to go down that path.

2. Gift Cards– It’s the thought that counts! Well, the problem with gift cards is that they may be the least thoughtful gift of all time. “Oh yeah, thanks for the $15 iTunes card; I can’t wait to throw these with the rest!” Valentine’s Day is the day that we’re expected to be most thoughtful, so take her out to dinner or shopping if you want to buy something for her.

3. Sugar-free candy– Nothing screams romance like letting her know she needs to watch what she eats. A simple box of chocolates will make any recipient feel loved (unless it’s diet chocolate, obviously). You might think it’s an extra thoughtful gift, but no girl is going to be content with the low-fat alternatives to her favorite sweets.

4. Plastic flowers– If you couldn’t already tell why this is a bad idea, then I understand why you’re reading this list. Plastic flowers are basically proof that you didn’t care early enough to talk to a florist in time. Flowers are simple, traditional gifts that have been popular for as long as we can remember, and we can definitely depend on them to continue to be.

5. Nothing– Whether you agreed on gifts or not, gifting nothing for Valentine’s Day is one of the worst things you can do. It doesn’t matter how much she says she doesn’t want anything, because everyone wants at least a little something. Even if you’re pretty sure you’re not supposed to get anything, buying a backup gift can go a long way just in case. Once again, the gift doesn’t have to be anything huge or extravagant, but you have to at least get something for your significant other.

All in all, Valentine’s Day is a special day to spend with your significant other, so make sure they feel as special as they really are. Just keep it simple, and think wisely before buying your gift. I hope everyone avoids the disastrous path that Valentine’s Day could potentially be, and I hope you all have a very special February 14th.
