Colonel Day

Colonel Day will be held on Saturday, Dec. 2 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Nicholls campus.

Laurie Larose, director of orientation and special recruit events, said, “Colonel Day is an
open house. It’s an opportunity for prospective students and their parents to visit our campus. It’s
targeted toward juniors and seniors who are looking at colleges and trying to make a decision.”
Larose said the day will consist of several sessions for students to explore all
opportunities Nicholls has to offer.

The day will begin with “Colonel Connect” where students can learn about various on-
campus organizations and services.

Afterward, following a general assembly, students will be able to attend college
showcases particular to their potential major.

LaRose said, “We will have two college showcase sessions, and students can choose two
different ones, which are both 45 minutes long. So, if they are stuck between two majors, they
can learn about both academic programs available at Nicholls.”

The college showcases will allow students the opportunity to meet the college’s dean and
professors and learn about the department’s curriculum.

Larose also said they have the option to attend informative presentations on admissions,
financial aid, housing and student involvement.

While these concurrent sessions take place, students will be offered campus tours led by
orientation team leaders.

Students will receive a Nicholls shirt as well as lunch at the cafeteria.

Ethan Guidry, a sophomore on Orientation Team, said Colonel Day is typically held
around the same time as a Nicholls or Thibodaux event so that “students can have something fun
to go to after.”

“The last Colonel Day before this one was on the same day as Thibodeauxville, so they
were able to go see Thibodaux and what it has to offer as well.”

LaRose said she expects more than 500 people to attend Colonel Day.

The Nicholls Orientation Program and the Admissions Office collaborate to host three
Colonel Days each year, two in the fall and one in the spring.

Colonel Day was originally scheduled for Oct. 7 but was postponed due to weather
conditions.
