The Nicholls State University women’s basketball team hosted Jacksonville University on
Saturday at David R. Stopher Gymnasium, where they lost with a score of 69-61.

Junior guard Cassidy Barrios shined for the Colonels, scoring a career-high 33 points and adding
10 rebounds, her third straight double-double of the season. Overall, Barrios had 33 points, 10
rebounds, six steals, three assists and two blocks against the Dolphins.

Defensively, the Colonels finished the game with 20 steals, with seven from senior guard Tia
Charles and six from Barrios.

However, the Colonels (1-2) struggled in field goal shooting, making only nine of 41 attempts.
This struggle allowed the Dolphins to breeze past the Colonels and lead by as many as 23 points
in the second half.

Despite the deficit, Nicholls fought back in the second half only to fall short in the end. The
Colonels have a 1-1 record at home and will travel to Baton Rouge tonight to face LSU.

The Tigers (1-2) started off their season on the road against USF and lost 61-55. LSU then
played against Nicholls’ Southland Conference rival Southeastern Louisiana at home, and
dominated in an 84-56 victory. The Tigers soon traveled to face Northern Colorado and narrowly
lost 58-50.

LSU has big play makers in senior guard Raigyne Louis and junior guard Chloe Jackson. In the
season opener at USF, Jackson recorded the seventh 20 plus point game of her career, with 21
points and seven rebounds. Against Southeastern Louisiana, Louis posted the ninth double-
double of her career, with 21 points and 10 rebounds.

Nicholls takes on LSU tonight at 7 p.m. at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center before facing
Bradley University on Friday at 1 p.m. at David R. Stopher Gymnasium.
