SGA Day to take place on Wednesday
November 14, 2017
The Student Government Association will offer a chance for students to meet with its members at its
“SGA Day” event in the quad on Nov. 15, the organization stated at its meeting yesterday.
Members of SGA will be stationed under a tent in the quad from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday in
order to meet with and answer questions from students. The organization will provide refreshments and
SGA giveaway items.
“We’re going to be giving out t-shirts, coffee cake, hot chocolate and various other SGA goodies,” said
SGA director of public relations Josie Graham, “and we will be taking concerns from students.”
Additionally at the meeting, the organization passed motions to sponsor a bus trip to the World War II
Museum in New Orleans and to fund student admission to a football playoff game.
The bus trip will serve to commemorate Black History Month in February of 2018.
“[The museum] has five buildings in total. Throughout all of those buildings there are different exhibits
[about] African-Americans,” said Senator Erica Tibbs.
The motion to sponsor playoff tickets will allow the organization to allocate up to $2,500 toward
purchasing 500 tickets at $25 each for a potential home football playoff game. The Student Program
Association will purchase an additional 500 tickets as well. The organizations will provide the tickets on a
first come, first serve basis.
“Our football team has a pretty good chance of making the playoffs this year, especially if they win on
Thursday,” said Senator Joshua Daigle. “If the game does come here, students will not get in free
because…it’s an NCAA game. Students would have to pay, so to increase students going to the game,
we’re trying to by 500 [tickets].”
President Tommy Thibodeaux said that if the playoff game ends up being an away game, whether or not
the organization sponsors tickets will depend on how far the game is and how much tickets cost.
The motion will ultimately become void if the team does not make it to the playoffs.
SGA also tabled to the finance committee motions to sponsor a clothing drive, to assist in funding
Nicholls for Life’s trip to the March for Life, to purchase three pedestrian crossing sign posts and to
purchase various SGA giveaway items.
In addition, Thibodeaux said that a press release regarding the announcement of the new president will
come out around 2:30 p.m. or 3:00 p.m. today.
