Cross country runs in NCAA South Central Regional

November 10, 2017

The Nicholls State University cross country program will participate in the 2017 NCAA South
Central Regional Cross Country Championship Meet tomorrow at the Dale Watts ’71 Cross
Country Course in College Station, Texas.

To qualify for the NCAA Championships in Louisville, Ky. Nov. 18, a team must either finish at
least second overall at the Regional. The first four runners who finish, not a part of the top-two
teams, will advance as well.

Head coach Stefanie Slekis said practices have been good, and the players feel fresh.

“At this point, when you’re planning out a training plan for your last two races that you’re
peaking for, thing are real easy,” Slekis said.

Slekis said the team wants to gain knowledge of the course and go out and compete.

“The big goal is to go and get experience, to go and see how competitive it is, and definitely to
give them one more opportunity to race.”

This race will be the conclusion of the Colonels’ season and Slekis’s first year as head coach.

The Regional begins with the women running a 6K starting at 9:15 a.m., and the men running a
10K beginning at 10:15 a.m.
