Column: Just Keep Swimming

As the semester is beginning to wind down, students begin to feel strung out and exhausted. It
is at this point that we all would do well to take a note or two from a favorite movie of mine,
“The Princess and the Frog.” In the lovable Disney movie, the main theme is to always push
yourself to accomplish your goals and reach your dreams.
Prince Naveen learns in a very brutal way that success isn’t something a person is
entitled to. Success, as Tiana teaches all of us very early on in the movie, is something one must
constantly work towards. I like to see it as more of a direction rather than a destination.
Nobody in this world is perfect. We all want things and we all have goals. The successful people
are the ones who pushed even harder when times got tough and persevered as the clock
started to wind down.
Specifically, in this semester, we as students need to take Tiana’s lesson and put it to
use. We need to buckle down and work for the outcome we want. It is not the time to sit back
and let the semester fall short of what we hoped it would be. At the end of the day, everyone
will be better off this way. We’re almost there!
