Nicholls soccer’s season came to an unfortunate end on Friday with a 1-0 double-
overtime loss to Southeastern Louisiana University. This loss knocked the Colonels out of the
eighth and final playoff spot in the Southland Conference tournament, with the University of
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi clinching the spot with the Colonel’s loss.

Friday’s match was one that was evenly contested by both teams. Nicholls (6-11- 1, 3-7- 1
SLC) and Southeastern both recorded seven shots in the first half. The Colonels had their share
of missed offensive opportunities, including a span of three minutes where they had three shots
on goal, but were unable to connect on any. The match remained scoreless at halftime.

The second half emulated the first, with both teams having scoring opportunities but not
being able to find the back of the net. Led by a strong defensive effort, the game went to
overtime tied at zero. At the end of regular time, the Colonels had 12 shots compared to 16 from
Southeastern.

In the first 10 minute overtime period, the Colonels came out with offensive intensity,
taking three shots, although they were unable to connect on any. Midfielder Francesca Curteis

game remained scoreless as it went to a second overtime period.

Southeastern overtook the Colonels in the second overtime period, taking three shots,
including the game winning goal with forty-one seconds remaining in the period, which
