Pink jumps right back into the pop scene on her seventh studio album “Beautiful Trauma”. Her first album in five years, “Beautiful Trauma” will remind older fans of Pink’s pop roots and cocky confidence, while attracting a younger generation of fans. Pink showcases her wide vocal range by singing, rapping and often times just yelling. “Beautiful Trauma” is a raw look inside the life and heart of the singer with many of the tracks having a tug-of- war or love and hate feel.
On the opening track and title song, Pink establishes the confident tone of her album, but also shows glimpses of her insecurity. That is the motif for much of “Beautiful Trauma,” bold swaggering confidence that tries to veil insecurities and doubt. Songs such as “Whatever You Want” and “You Get My Love” however, do not try to hide Pink’s raw emotion. She voices concerns about her marriage, her family and being a mother, all in Pink’s trademark pop-punk style. With some surprising help from rapper Eminem on “Revenge,” Pink opens up about a past love gone awry, and raps away any apprehension about the end result.
Other than those few tracks, Pink puts out little new and a lot of the same style that she’s been using for almost 20years. If you are a Pink fan and have followed her throughout her career, then you’ll come to appreciate this album for what it is: a Pink album. Newer fans will enjoy her spunky aggressive tone, as well as her knack for emoting through every line she says. Although this may not be Pink’s best album, the competition surrounding her is almost non-existent in the pop genre. Even if this is not her strongest work, “Beautiful Trauma” still holds up as a decent pop-punk album that is definitely worth a listen through.
