October 12, 2017

Dr. Jason Ladd is the Interim Director of Athletic Bands, Director of Symphonic Bands,
Lecturer of Low Brass and Music Education at Nicholls State. Dr. Ladd comes from upstate New
York and taught at Marquette University in Milwaukee before moving to Thibodaux, LA. He has
earned degrees from Eastman School of Music, Syracuse University and Florida State University.

Dr. Ladd’s typical day consists of teaching the Methods of Instrumental and Vocal Music
courses, followed by trombone lessons, then observing a student teacher near Choctaw and
finally rehearsal with the marching band for an hour and a half.

Although difficult, Dr. Ladd’s job is a very rewarding one. He said, “My favorite part of the job is being able to teach a variety of courses and to work with students from freshmen year until they graduate. I'm excited to see them become great band and choir directors.”

Dr. Jason Ladd is primarily a tuba player, and has performed in numerous settings with
numerous different ensembles. Dr. Ladd has held a tube recital at Nicholls each year since he
started teaching at Nicholls. In addition, each recital has debuted compositions from Dr.

Kimberly Archer and Hwaen Ch'uqi, who both attended to hear their compositions brought to
life. The music faculty additionally premiered a composition about Sojourner Truth by Stanley
Friedman.

The incoming freshman class of music majors is the largest the department has seen.
This paves the way for many more exciting accomplishments within the department in the
future, which is something that Dr. Ladd and the rest of the department, is very excited about!
